Womens Health

Kristy is our specialised Women's Health Physiotherapist who has a genuine passion for helping women to achieve their best pelvic floor function, she believes that this a condition that should not be suffered in silence and too many women - young and old - do.

Common symptoms which women report for these conditions often include:

  • Awareness of prolapse or a feeling of vaginal “heaviness”

  • Leaking from the bladder or bowel - often when coughing, sneezing or laughing.

  • Urgency with needing to pass urine, or passing urine frequently during the day or night

  • Pain during intercourse

  • Constipation

  • Sharp pains in the pelvic or lower back regions.

Our team of physiotherapists regularly attend the local gyms with our patients. Where appropriate the physiotherapists at Fortitude Physiotherapy will meet you at the local gym to take you through a personalised gym strength and stabilising program.

We tailor make each program based on the individual injury or treating condition.

We also have small equipment available in our Cooma and Bombala clinics, that we will regularly use to ensure you at your optimum at the end of your rehabilitation.

Dry Needling

What is dry needling?

Dry needling is now a commonly used treatment technique by physiotherapists who undertake specialised training, either during University or at a course once they have graduated.

Dry needling is used to treat muscular pain or myofascial dysfunction and has proven to be useful in reducing muscle spasm; inflammation and pain. It does this by eliciting a antihistamine response which increases blood flow and repair cell activation. As well as, desensitising the central nervous system and therefore acting as a "pain gate" for the other neurological messages flooding your system. Finally, it has also shown to have a "happy" affect through the release of endorphins and therefore, another way to decrease the pain to that particular area.

Sports Physiotherapy

The team at Fortitude Physiotherapy are avid sports fans and, therefore have an understanding of what is required to return to your chosen sport/hobby, whether this is a local fun run or two marathons a year, to a touch footy competition on a Thursday night or first grade rugby league or union on the weekend - we have your back (excuse the pun!)

Sporting injuries include, but are not limited to:

  • Ankles sprains and fractures

  • Ligament sprains and/or tears; cartilage damage and dislocations in the knee

  • Muscle contusions (corks) and/or direct trauma

  • Wrist sprains

  • Shoulder injuries, including dislocations; fractures and rotator cuff tears

  • Back and neck injuries

  • Acute, traumatic finger injuries

We ensure all patients leave with an increased understanding of their injury and education on the correct management of that injury, including referral to a specialist if we believe this is required.
